Learn to Lead

Creative leadership is the big, unspoken void today.

It isn’t something you learn once you put the word director in your title. It’s something you develop now.

Creative Leadership skills will make you a better candidate and a noticeably more valuable creative player at every level.

Leadership is simply about inspiring people to follow you and the ideas you believe in.

It’s about helping your partner and every creative stakeholder get to better answers and find a place they wouldn’t have found otherwise.

It’s about accepting and rejecting the work of others and being greatly respected, even thanked after either outcome.

Creative leadership gets you talked about in the conversations about promotions and responsibilities.

This class will spend some time talking about what makes or doesn’t make a creative leader/director.

Then we’ll work on assignments and together, inspire and lead them to better places.

We’ll critique work without judging but by leading and directing.

We’ll learn how to get more out of ourselves, others and most importantly, the work.

For students at any level, Creative Leadership starts now.

Instructor: Rich Russo

Rich is a writer and Chief Creative Officer who has successfully led agencies of every size—global, mid-size, small, start-up. And he’s done it in NY, LA and Philadelphia. He’s won every meaningful award including an Emmy.

Most of his leadership endeavors have been agency underdog situations. Or as Rich calls them “fixer-uppers”.

His most recent success story has been Arnold NY, where he was President and CCO. During that time Arnold won awards and grew from 35 to 170 people and won the MM&M Gold Mid-Size Agency Of The Year Award twice in the last 3 years. The Arnold culture of winning through radical collaboration was palatable and the key to its new business success.

He believes leadership, especially creative leadership, has helped him make creative people better, which made their collaboration better, the work better, the culture better and the agencies more successful. The mission was always to create more effective work for their brands and win more new business than everyone dreamed possible.

His mentorship has left a long legacy of helping countless creatives become great leaders and creative directors themselves and he’s very proud of that.
